Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is a much used term that has begun to take on many meanings. At Partnercorp we work on the simple yet powerful philosophy of Now - Where - How in all organisational development plans.

Now
Getting an understanding of where the organisation sits now is a vital component in designing strategy going forward. For an existing organisation some common areas for reviewing strengths and weaknesses include:-

  • Financial performance - profitability, return on investment, benchmark comparisons and business strength overall.
  • Marketing - targets markets, product range, promotions, method of distribution, sales processes and competitor analysis
  • Processes - Systems and workflow procedures
  • Innovation & Learning - People development systems, morale, prevalence of continuous improvement, efficiency and productivity.

Where
Using the Now information as a guide we convene a workshop to develop the Where. This will entail listing clear and tangible outcomes that will be achieved over the nominated period. A number of planning processes are applied at this point to ensure the vision components are balanced and achievable.

The Where analysis is also the time to ensure that all understand exactly what business we are in, what let's us win in the market and the internal rules of conducting business.

How
The greatest problem with the planning process traditionally lies in the implementation process. For this reason the strategies developed need to be captured in a form that promotes implementation.

This is where the One Page Plan concept becomes important. By capturing the strategies and actions in a small document, as small in fact as an A4 sheet of paper, the likelihood of implementation increases.

The one page plan in concert with a set of protocols for controlling to the plan will ensure the words become reality in a timely manner within the organisation. It is a simple approach but we have made it work in organisations as large as the Commonwealth Bank and as small as a sole trader.

We effectively adapt the Strategic Planning process to suit your needs - for example if you are looking to create plans in the areas if investor ready, marketing and organisational development we can assist.
